A primary community of the Western Reserve, Brecksville was founded in 1811. It was named after Colonel John Breck, who had purchased the surrounding area alongside several partners in 1807. Breck never lived in Brecksville, but his three sons did, and members of the Breck family continued to live in the area until 1934, when the Colonelās great-grandson died. It wasnāt until 1921 that Brecksville was incorporated as a village, and it became a city in 1961 with a population exceeding 5,000.
